From the ground up.

“Anyone who listens to my teaching and obeys me is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock.” Matthew 7:24

Everyone has a foundation, and every one of us builds on our foundation. So what type of materials are you and I using to build on? There is no better way to find out than by reading the word of God.

And because God’s word speaks for itself, I am going to let God do the talking, knowing full well that the Holy Spirit will do the work within each of us as He sees fit. So soak it up brethren, listen to it, obey it and let God reveal to you the foundation you are standing on and the materials you are using to build on that foundation.

“Because of God’s  special favor to me, I have laid the foundation like an expert builder. Now others are building on it. But whoever is building on this foundation must be very careful. For no one can lay any other foundation than the one we already have-Jesus Christ. Now anyone who builds on that foundation may use gold, silver, jewels, wood, hay, or straw. But there is going to come a time of testing at the judgment day to see what kind of work each builder has done. Everyone’s work will be put through the fire to see whether or not it keeps its value. If the work survives the fire, that builder will receive a reward. But if the work is burned up, the builder will suffer great loss. The builders themselves will be saved, but like someone escaping through a wall of flames.” 1 Corinthians 3:10-15

I am listening, are you?

The more I read over this passage and listen to the words of God, He keeps reminding me that we cannot build on our foundation’s using money, self, success, worldly possessions, even our own thinking. Especially when we think we can get by on our own. All those things to me represent the wood, hay, and straw. They are temporary, offer little satisfaction, and will be the first things burned up in a second leaving us standing there surrounded by flames.

We cannot depend on our own efforts, security, achievements, success, self, or others. We must depend on the solid foundation of Christ Jesus, and we must use the materials provided in His word to build on His foundation.

Will your building with stand the fire?

Prayer: Lord it is time we get serious about our relationship with You. It is time we take down all the materials that are flammable and start over using the materials that will with stand the fire-Your word. Lord open our eyes to the urgency, open the eyes of the lost, the confused, and those who are deliberately living in sin. Amen
