v Exodus 9

o   In Exodus 9 The Lord brings harsher punishment upon Pharaoh and Egypt. This chapter brings about three things;

§  Death
§  Suffering
§  Loss

Ø  Let's look at each of these in detail.

o   Exodus 9:1-7

§  1. Death-The Lord begins to press down harder on Pharaoh and the people of Egypt. You can't help but wonder how many Egyptians during this time came to know The Lord from these plagues.

·      In what three ways did this plague affect the land of Egypt?
o   1.
o   2.
o   3.

§  Why did The Lord make a clear distinction between The Egyptians and the Israelites?

§  How does The Lord make a distinction between believers and non-believers today?

§  Notice in verse 5 The Lord "Set" a time. Why did He set a time? What benefit could this have had for Pharaoh and the Egyptian people?

·      Read Romans 2:4-Why does God give us time?

o   How are we benefited from this?

o   Exodus 9:8-12

§  2. Suffering-Something we all experience in many different forms. For the Egyptians, suffering came in many ways. This is the first plague of boils to affect them physically.

·      What type of suffering resulted from this plague?

·      Is there a difference in suffering for Christ and suffering because of our sinfulness? What are the differences?
o   Philippians 1:29
o   1 Peter 5:10-11
o   Did Job suffer because of his sin, or because of his faithfulness?
§  How can we know the difference in our sufferings?
§  Are you willing to suffer for Christ? He suffered for you.

o   Exodus 9:13-34

§  3. Loss-to lose something or someone. In this case, loss came in a form of destruction. Hail.  We have all been in a hailstorm at one time or another. We know the problems that come with a hailstorm. In this case, this is a hailstorm the Egyptian people will never forget.

·      What warning did God give Pharaoh in verse 14?

o   What do we need to learn from these warnings?

·      What three things do you learn about God in verses 15 and 16?
o   1.
o   2.
o   3.

·      What gift do the Egyptian people and we share according to verse 15?
o   Flip ahead to Exodus 34:6-7 for more details.

·      What was God’s reasoning for letting the people live according to verse 16?

o   What did God do for us on this side of the Cross-, that saves us from death?

§  What resulted from the hailstorm according to Exodus 9:24-25; 31

·      How did this plague catch Pharaoh’s attention? Read verse 27

o   In what ways have we seen natural disaster affect our land today?
§  Do you think God is trying to get our attention from them? If yes, why?

·      In verse 34 what do Pharaoh’s actions reveal about him?

o   What do our actions reveal about us?

o   List some ways we pretend to change; yet our actions prove differently?

§  1.
§  2.
§  3.
§  4.
§  5.

Application

What lessons can you learn from these three plagues?

How do death, suffering and loss bring you closer to Christ?

Death, Suffering, and Loss are inevitable, with that being said, how important is our relationship with Christ?

            Why?

Every single word written in the Bible is useful and of great purpose.  If we look expectantly God will reveal those important life lessons to us. Be a student of the Word and let God open your eyes to who He is.
