v Exodus 8

o   Chapter 8 focuses on three main issues.

§  1. The Ripple Effect

§  2. The Hardening and Lies

§  3. Compromise

v The Ripple Effect

o   Exodus 8:2-4; 16-17; 21

§  How did Pharaoh’s stubbornness and disobedience affect Egypt and all the people in it?

·      How does our sin, even stubbornness and disobedience affect others?

§  According to each of these verses what resulted from Pharaoh’s hardening heart? Let’s look at each of these verses.

·      Exodus 8:2-4-what did God send to cover the entire land of Egypt? Why frogs?

o   What happened when the magicians performed their secret arts, according to verse 7?

o   How is the sin in our lives similar to the vast amount of frogs covering Egypt?

·      Exodus 8:16-17-Did God give Pharaoh any warning when he sent gnats to infest the land?

o   Why?

·      How much more did the plague of gnats affect the Egyptians? Look back at verse 17.

o   What was different about this plague verse the other two? List them out-Read verse 17-19 again.

·      Exodus 8:21-Why do you think the Lord gave Pharaoh warning before He sent the plagues?

o   Why does God give us warning today, in regards to the consequences of our sins?

·      What similar things have we seen today that has caused chaos in our country?

v The Hardening and Lies

§  Using each of these verses, list out each lie Pharaoh made.

§  Why did Pharaoh wait until the next day to be delivered from the vast hordes of frogs, (verse 10) why not immediately?

·      Why do we delay deliverance from the entanglement of sin and death?

§  What compromises did Pharaoh make in each of these passages?

o   Why was Pharaoh so willing to compromise?

The Right Pattern

"Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by chancing the way you think." Romans 12:2

Do you struggle with your thought life? I believe we all do. It is a vicious cycle that we will be at war with until Christ calls us home, (Galatians 5:17-18) but in the meantime, God gives us the choice.

Over the last several months I have been leading an at home Bible Study with a group of women. We are studying the Book of Proverbs. If you have ever read Proverbs you know how powerful and convicting it can be. All in a good, transform you inside out way.

It wasn't until recently that the Lord impressed upon me to shift my thinking and really focus on what He says about our thought life.

So, if you are like me and desire a transformation in your thought life, jump in with us as we focus on The 4 C's of Thinking.

1. Controlled Thinking
2. Caring Thinking
3. Conniving Thinking
4. Careless Thinking

When Christ first impressed this upon me and I began to study all He said about our mind, many things began to happen.

1. Satan began to really attack (As hard as his attacks are, I am learning to find joy in them, because it means he is unhappy with what God is doing in and through me.)
2. God really began to stir areas within me that were unpleasant and He is still at work. (I am learning and re-learning)
3. I began to realize how our thoughts determine our feelings and our feelings determine our decision making. Which led to this amazing graph that now plays a huge role in my day to day life.

Here is how it works. Our minds which are akin to our hearts, do three things. They engage in conscious thinking, feeling, and decision making. When we really stop and "think" about our minds, we become aware of how much information is held within them. Our mind is a very powerful thing, but our tongue is even more powerful, we will talk about that later. 

Lets look at the graph above. Our Mind is the control center and from it stems our thoughts, feelings and decision making. Therefore, what we put in our mind determines our thoughts which then determine our feelings which then determine our decision making. 

It's a pattern that occurs every single day. But here is the kicker, often times we allow our thoughts and feelings to switch positions, which looks like the graph below

When this happens there is chaos and havoc of every kind. We're all over the place and it shows in our decision making. So many times when we speak we say, "I feel…" This is a good indicator that our alignment within our mind, might be out of whack.

So, the first place we have to begin is by allowing the Holy Spirit to step in and put things back in order. Why is it important to have our thoughts become before our feelings?

1. Feelings are fickle
2. Feelings can become out of control and very possessive
3. Feelings can easily be led astray
4. Feelings can deceive and be deceiving.

Now, don't get me wrong, our thoughts are a big struggle as well, BUT we have a greater chance of success and growth in our personal relationship with Christ when we submit our thought life to Him. Because from there everything else will align accordingly.

Romans 12:2 says, "…but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think."

Did you notice the verse says, "LET GOD transform you." Understanding that key phrase will be very beneficial in your transformation.

Okay with all that said, our goal as we walk through Proverbs and focus on the 4 C's of thinking is to step aside, allow the Holy Spirit to put our minds back in order, give God the commander's seat, and place every thought under the microscope of God's Word.

Tomorrow we will begin studying the first C of thinking. But for today, focus on Romans 12:2. Memorize it, store it, and pray it over yourself.

Learn-God’s Promise of Deliverance

            ***Remember to mark in your Bibles or somewhere every time Moses asks Pharaoh to let the people go. We will discuss the meaning of this later on. ***

v Exodus 7

o   Chapter 7 begins a series of God revealing His power and authority. It also begins the hardening process of Pharaoh’s heart.

o   We will break chapter 7 up into two different parts.

§  1. God’s direct guidance, His plan, and His first step of action.

§  2. The Plague of Blood and Pharaoh’s response

v Part One

o   Exodus 7:1

§  According to verse 1 what was God’s first plan of action?

§  Why was this first plan necessary?

o   Exodus 7:2-5

§  In these 4 passages God sets the stage for the upcoming events. Let’s look at each verse individually.

·      Verse 2-What is the first thing God commands Moses and Aaron to do?

·      Verse 3-How will God make Himself known to Pharaoh and the Egyptians?

·      Verse 4-Who will God bring out of Egypt according to this verse? How will He do that?

·      Verse 5- How will the Lord reveal Himself to the Egyptians?

o   How does the Lord reveal Himself to us today?

o   Exodus 7:6-13

§  Why does God mention their age in verse 7?

·      What can we learn from their age?

§  In verse 8 & 9 how does God prepare Moses and Aaron for their meeting with Pharaoh?

·      What is the first miracle God has Moses and Aaron perform?

§  In verses 10-13 what three key points stand out to you? Why?

·      In verse 11 how does Pharaoh react to the miracle Aaron performed?

·      What happened after the magicians did the same thing with their secret arts?

o   According to verse 12 what did Aaron’s snake do?

·      What was Pharaoh’s focus on?

o   If we focus more on the event, problem, or miracle rather than on the message we too can easily be lead astray.

o   Exodus 7:14-25

§  A Plague of Blood

·      What did God tell Moses to do in verse 14-15? Why?

·      Why did God want Moses to remind Pharaoh of his stubbornness and hardening heart, according to verses 16 and 17?

§  When we are reminded of our stubbornness and sinfulness, how do we react? Why do we need to be reminded?

·      Psalm 19:12-13

·      Psalm 32:3-11

·      Psalm 51:3

o   According to verse 18 what would happen when the water turned to blood?

§  How would this affect the Egyptian people?

o   How were the Egyptian magicians able to turn the water into blood? (Verse 22)

o   What was Pharaoh’s reaction after the magicians turned the water into blood? (Verses 22-25)
